Details

Are you ready to bring the true soul of Tsugaru Shamisen music to your life? This shamisen is super fun to play and not just beautifully made but also a joy to look at. I named this shamisen “Jun” [] – that means “pure” – because it embodies the genuine essence of Tsugaru Shamisen and will give you access to the full joy of this music style.

Wood:

This instrument is made from koki wood – the traditional super high-end dark hardwood that’s most desired in Japan.

Accessories and Skins:

The accessories are a splendid classic combo: A red real leather doukake and a golden neo knot. Get ready to shine! Feel free to level up with one of the fantastic Tsugaru Laqcuer style doukake in the accessories section of the shop. Also included in the package are a set of attached strings, a bachigawa, and a dougomu. The dou is skinned with natural skins with superb tension. I’m including a washi bag for safe transport.

Neck:

This fingerboard is 30,5 mm wide and the neck 34,5 mm high at the top and widens slightly towards the dou. Its hatomune – the part where the neck enters the sound box – ends in a sharp edge that makes it possible to play up to position 20 and slightly beyond on this instrument.

Itomaki:

The white acrylic itomaki (tuning pegs) are intricately shaped. One itomaki had been replaced and has a different shape. It really is very subtle, and both shapes are extra exquisite and very comfortable to grip.

More:

The installed azuma sawari lets you adjust the sawari (buzz) to your liking. This means you can switch it off completely (for modern pieces, pop/rock/metal genres or certain ensembles) and also have the perfect buzz no matter how high or low you tune your shamisen.

The tsukigata (the curved end of the tenjin) is in perfect condition. The neck is crafted in mitsuori style: It can be separated into three parts. This makes travelling with the shamisen very easy – even if you have to get by with light and small luggage. The joints are crafted in a more intricate manner that allows for an extra durable snug fit of the joints.

All you need to add to your set to start playing are a koma, a bachi and a yubisuri. Yubisuri come in different sizes and colors, so you can either match your shamisen’s look or have a colorfur contrasting highlight. There’s a variety of different koma and bachi you can choose from in the shop.

If you need help with picking the right additions to this set, don’t hesitate to send a message and we will find the perfect match for you together.
