Shamisen SCORES by Level

BEGINNER LEVEL

I recommend these songs for people who are just starting out with playing the shamisen. There’s no to very few techniques needed in the songs and the range of positions stays within the first octave (= does not extend beyond position 10).

ADVANCED BEGINNER LEVEL

These songs involve more different techniques within one piece, and combine different techniques as combo-techniques (such as ス and ハ in succession). The basic tempo can be quicker, too. But there’s also slow songs in this category.  

INTERMEDIATE

The intermediate level songs are longer, have more techniques or use higher positions (beyond 10) and are thus a great choice if you want to level up from the advanced beginner level.

ADVANCED
